It’s not just about football here in Birmingham, many more sports are popular all over the city and we have some of the best sporting venues in the country! The National Indoor Arena is among the largest venues of its kind and regularly hosting some of the major UK sporting events.

Next week, it will see the return of the annual Yonex All England Championships!

From Tuesday 3rd to Sunday 8th March you’ll have the chance to watch badminton’s international stars fighting for a title in the oldest and most prestigious badminton tournament in the world!

Obviously great for fans, but why not give it a try even if you might have thought badminton was boring? You’ll get to see world’s greatest players – Olympians and World Champions alike – and who knows, maybe you’ll discover a new favourite sport to follow? It will certainly be an entertaining day at the NIA! Some of our guests at the Hatters next week have already expressed their intention to catch a bit of the action. We will even have a few people staying who are involved in the tournament – I’m sure they will happily answer all your questions around the Championship or badminton in general! We are also very close to all the action – it’s only a 10 minutes walk from the hostel! The finals on the Sunday are already sold out, but tickets for all other days are still available. Ticket prices start from £10 on Tuesday and are £23 for the quarter finals on Saturday, with students getting a 50% discount off the full price! You can buy them online or in person from the NIA/NEC box offices and the Birmingham Ticket Shop.

More detailed information about all things badminton and the All England Championships can be found here.

My first football game in England was Aston Villa vs. Wigan at Villa Park. Aston Villa supporters were roaring out their chants in the hope of a Villa goal to make a fight for the title against the top teams. The first half didn’t produce many chances for Villa, but the crowd continued to chant and Villa controlled the majority of possession. Half time involved curry sauce chips (Which were a great winter warmer). Villa were shooting towards our end in the second half. They saw many chances go begging as the referee missed a hand ball just in front of the Villa goals, triggering the supporters to roar louder – only to see no goals scored at the end of the 90 minutes. I made the journey back to Hatters Hostel wondering how great it would have been to see an Aston Villa goal and witness a full stadium jumping for glory!

This is Bill the snow person.  He lived outside my kitchen window for a day or so. Photobucket Toppest bloke. RIP Bill.
Hundreds seen running from popular Manchester hostel in the latest in the UK’s Ukulele attacks leaving hundreds more fearing for their sanity. The latest attack of many reported recently took place on an extravagently patterned, flowery sofa positioned the communal area of the Hatters Hostel in Manchester’s Northern Quarter. Experts say the attacks, part of a music invasion breaking through into the rooms and dorms seem set to continue, with the next outbreak predicted for this Wednesday. Many seem keen for their sanity to continue cite The Kabeedies as the next thing that can possibly raise these levels back up to an expected range.

Rewards are being offered by the staff and guests at Manchester’s top backpackers’ hostel, suggesting that the delivery of the perpetrator’s whereabouts may lead to big things. Please contact 0161 236 9500 if you have information and remember that all it takes its a FREE GIG at Hatters on Weds to remedy this terrible act.
