MOJO Liverpool has long been recognised as one of the best party bars in the North West, effortlessly cool, but without pretence it provides the perfect soundtrack and surroundings in which to sip its sumptuous cocktails. On Wednesday the 18th of August, in association with Wray & Nephew White Rum MOJO is serving up a real treat in the form of DJ Derek… The legendary Bristol DJ whose blend of reggae, dub and ska has made him an icon for many in the industry, including a host of Jamaican producers and Massive Attack. Derek isn’t your average turntablist – a former accountant in his late 50s (at least!) with a major cardigan habit, Derek kindled his love for music as a washboard player in the 1950s; nevertheless he continues to blow away audiences with his unique selections.

DJ Derek is supported on the night by Liverpool Reggae, Ska and 2 Tone Upstarts ‘The 10 Of Spades’ and legendary Leeds based DJ ‘El Gnomo Moonstompio.’ Best of all… and we’ll say it again, it’s FREE!

This is sure to be a special night of Rum and Reggae, and Wray and Newphew will be on hand to serve up some ’specials’, so don’t miss it! For more information please contact tom@lazy-genius.co.uk

LAZY GENIUS has already established itself in just 2 years as Liverpool’s leading… (deep breath) club night, promotions company, artist management & booking agency, marketing and PR consultancy…

Phew.

All in a day’s work for Tom Johnson, marketing guru of the Lazy Genius dynasty, who will be celebrating this milestone at Zanzibar on 6th August:

“It’s been a fantastic 2 years, with so many memorable gigs and nights, and a few that are a bit of a blur! We’ve not always got it right, and we’re still cutting our teeth, but I’m committed to promoting live music in the right way.”

A rarity among other promoters, this musical philanthropist is known for putting hard-working bands first and this celebration is sure to be a hit with the army of musicians and fans who have made Lazy Genius what it is today.

“Our 2nd Birthday at The Zanzibar is a celebration of a lot of hard work and good times, a chance to get a load of bands that I love on one stage, and everyone who’s been involved with LAZY GENIUS on the dance floor!”

The line-up is comprised of acts who’ve graced the stage snugly under the Lazy Genius umbrella over the last 2 years and features DJs upstairs. Tickets are available from ticket link., so join Hatters Liverpool on that dancefloor for what’s sure to be one of the biggest events in Liverpool of the summer.

Liverpool’s first ever gay pride event launched last night at Sakura in Liverpool city centre. The event, which will take place on the 7th and 8th August promises to be a vibrant, colourful celebration of gay pride. Liverpool will be hoping to follow in Manchester and London’s footsteps as hosts of existing succesful pride events.

Liverpool Pride Weekend is completely free and has received the full support of the City Council, who are hoping to turn Liverpool’s gay quarter into the “rainbow quarter” for the duration of the event. In this spirit, there will be three circus themed stages featuring cabaret, acoustic and headliner performances from ex-Coronation Street actor turned pop-star, Adam Rickitt, club diva Rozalla and Liverpool’s Sense of Sound Choir.

Tommy McIlravey, chairman of Liverpool Pride 2010, said: “It’s fantastic that from those initial meetings, Liverpool Pride has grown into something special.

“It’s great to see the wider Liverpool community getting excited and becoming involved in what promises to be a wonderful event.

“For too long Liverpool’s LGBT community have travelled to Manchester or London to take part in Pride festivals and the economic impact of this should not be underestimated.”

So don’t hesitate to book to make sure that you don’t miss out on any of the action here at Hatters Hostel Liverpool.
