Also try: Maharaja – (London Road)
ItalianItalian Club Restaurant – Bold Street
Italian Club Restaurant sits cosily beside Hatters favourite bar, Tabac, on Bold Street in the independent business hub of Liverpool’s vibrant city centre. Simple hot daily specials are prepared every morning and served in an accurate and faithful manner, including cold antipasti and Panini that are offered at extremely competitive prices. The family business has recently added a seafood restaurant across the road, Italian Club Seafood, which is also winning rave reviews for its faithful Tuscan delights. Average meal prices range from £3-6.
Also try: The Quarter (Hope Street Italian restaurant, famed for great pizzas)
MexicanTavern – Queens Square Situated by the Queen Square Bus Station, Tavern is a low-lit feast of south-of-the-border cuisine and offers a relaxed atmosphere alongside hearty portions at reasonable prices. The menu caters to the more adventurous palate, as well as offering burgers and fajitas for the more casual patron. Although Tavern is marginally more expensive than the above restaurants, it certainly offers value for money fare, and will surely add extra sizzle to a stay in Liverpool.
Also try: Savina Restaurant (Duke Street restaurant, slightly more upmarket/expensive)
FrenchBistro Jacques – Hardman Street
To dine àla française, Bistro Jacques is situated just a stone’s throw from Hatters Hostel and serves rustic French cuisine and boasts traditional Gallic décor with wooden tables, candles in bottles and walls smattered with prints by French artists. Bistro Jacques are famous for their 3 course “Lunch Offre” for £7.95 from 12pm every day. Their pre-theatre 3 course menu is also worth mentioning, at £10.95.
Also try: Café Rouge (Paradise Street, situated on the cusp of new city centre shopping development, Liverpool One, on Paradise Street)
SpanishTirano – Lark Lane, Aigburth Not necessarily sitting snugly under the “cheap eats” banner, but worth a mention for the fact that it is part-owned by Liverpool FC’s defensive general, Daniel Agger. The Great Dane can often be seen sampling his restaurant’s Tuscan and Spanish blend. The food on offer, as one would expect, is an exotic selection of tapas, antipasti, fish and meat dishes. One to recommend, although located outside of the City centre on ever-trendy Lark Lane.
Also try: La Tasca (Queens Square, cheaper, authentic franchised tapas)
For the Uninspired
McDonalds is around the corner. But, why would you want to go there?

….and we will need your help… Us here at The Hatters and Hilton Chambers hostels in Manchester would really like you, our guests, to help us show and tell other people how great Manchester is. We would like your pictures, your stories about the city, the bands, the record shops, the mosaics, whatever it is that struck a chord that time you came to visit up north. We hope that this will be a way for you and them to find out what’s coming to Manchester, what has been good and who has been to Manchester and reasons to get here as often as possible (hint…it ain’t the weather).
We will not dictate on content nor be too delicate about what you have to say. Videos are good, pictures are good…we would really love to see and hear how you got in this smashing city.
We love Manchester and we know you will too..
