A fan of Coronation street? jamie_baldwinAre you a fan of the dude who plays Jamie Baldwin, Rupert Hill? Do you want to see him? Well, he has bought out the Castle pub on Oldham Street in the Northern Quarter with his fellow band member and friend Johnny Booth. It’s only about two minutes walk from either of our Manchester hostels and is a little tiny hovel of a place… cosy, fits probably about thirty people in there and so that means that you, yes YOU could probably even corner him helplessly and spend the night chatting to the fella. venuecastlemcr They bought the place out a few months after it closed and the plans are to open up end of February/start of March. It’s nothing posh or anything snobby, it’s just a good old British pub with kooky friendly people and no doubt good tunes. Oh, and even if you don’t see Rupert they’ve just lined up the sexiest man in Manchester to work there too, and the other dude Johnny has an awesome afro worthy of checking out. While you’re about though,  you might want to see if their band Yellow Dog is playing. It’s actually not too bad… click here for their MySpace. When I saw them they were a bit ‘worse for wear’ but still played an alright set. Sound alright? Ask us and we’ll point it out for you :)

Come and join us for some live music on the 28th of November when Lorelei Loveridge, world traveller and singer/songwriter stops by to offer us a taster of her new album “Bakhoor”!

Lorelei, originally from Canada, has spent the past 11 years living in Saudi Arabia. She has also been travelling and performing her music all over the world; from concerts in the Arabian dessert to opening for folk rocker Andy White in Dublin’s Da Club.

Her travelling experiences can be traced in her music; traditional North American singer/songwriting accompanied by sounds from around the world: Indian Tablas, Greek Bouzoukis and more…

“Our lives

come into sharper focus in direct proportion to our distance from our origins. That is, the farther we travel, the closer we are to home.”

Taken from her MySpace, check it out!
