It’s  St. George’s Day today, England’s National Day. England’s patron saint will be celebrated within the next few days with parades and festivals all over the country. Birmingham’s official celebrations will take place on Saturday (the 25th). So if you are around at the weekend, why not head into the city centre to see what’s going on? The action starts at 11am and goes on until 5pm. On the upper part of New Street you will find an English Craft and Farmers Market where you can buy traditional food or maybe find a nice traditional souvenir of your trip to England. Victoria Square will see a stage with live music from bands like Deluka, The Fab Beatles (the UK’s leading Beatles tribute band) or Kerfuffle and some other entertainment, presented by BBC West Midlands. nullChamberlain Square will be dominated by dancing performances and other entertainment such as sword-fighting demonstrations from the Knights of Middle England and their horses. Foodwise, of course, you will be able to try various traditional culinary delights and you can also buy ales and ciders from local breweries. So let’s hope for some warm and sunny weather to fully enjoy this outdoor event, sit down with a nice pint of beer and enjoy the music and other entertainment! . No need to go home after 5pm. For fans of classical music there is something else to look forward to – The St George’s Day Concert at the Symphony Hall! It’s on from 6-9pm and will cost you £6 or £8. Everyone else… why not pop into The Wellington for another pint of fine ale or cider? The place is just round the corner, always worth a visit and they have a beer festival on this weekend, meaning you have the chance to try even more great English ales! . And for the rest of the evening… Well, of course there are plenty of choices for a Saturday night out.  However, if you feel tired after the day, your bed at the Hatters or nice cup of English tea in our kitchen is just a 10 minutes walk away!

And besides,  if all the fuss about England is getting a bit too much: Welcome back to the international atmosphere of the hostel!
